Patrick Bergin To Star In ‘Secret Of The Cave’
06 May 2005 :

Patrick Bergin

Actor Patrick Bergin ( Bloom, Patriot Games, Sleeping With The Enemy, Durgano) will return to Ireland this summer to star in the feature film adaptation of Arthur S. Maxwell’s children’s novel ‘Secret of The Cave’.

America’s Southern Adventist University’s School of Visual Art and Design is producing the Christian themed film which follows a boy's discovery of his Irish roots and of the importance of family when he travels to Ireland with his Irish born father.

Shooting entirely on Achill Island, Co. Mayo, principal photography is scheduled to begin at the end of May. A five week shoot is planned and crew will be comprised of students and several Irish industry professionals. “We will be working with an extremely talented local Irish cast and Southern students to bring these characters to life,” says director and University professor Zach Gray.

Local councillor, Keith Martin, who is behind the bid for a film commission for Mayo has been working closely with producers and assisting with pre-production. He commented: "this is good news for Achill and for Mayo as a viable film location. Mayo has the best scenery in the world, a large base of talented professionals and fantastic goodwill towards film makers. This particular project is very interesting, it is set on Achill Island and shot entirely there. All the major attractions from the Atlantic Drive to the deserted famine village will feature. The crew will also utilise local knowledge and people when needed."

Further cast to be announced shortly.
