After the film’s screening, thousands of Michigan State University fans took to the streets following their basketball team’s defeat in the Final Four College State semi-finals. Writer/Director Shimmy Marcus was on his way to a festival party when he was confronted with a wall of Riot Police shooting Tear Gas to disperse
the crowds.
Marcus explained.. “Where I was positioned, about 20 people were just standing outside the festival party when the police fired tear gas at us. My throat and eyes were burning but it could have been worse. One girl was hit with a canister and we managed to drag her inside. Eventually Festival Director Susan Woods took her to the hospital after unsuccessful attempts to get paramedics to collect her. ”
This is the 5th International award for ‘Headrush’ which Zanzibar Films are distributing theatrically this summer. ‘I’m thrilled again that the film continues to win audience awards.’ said Marcus. ‘ It really brought a tear to my eye, in more ways that one!”
