Coco TV gear up for another St Pats’ parade
13 Mar 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Coco will have 12 cameras spread throughout the city to capture the parade
Coco Television are busy preparing for the 2015 St Patrick’s Day Parade, where they will once again film the event live and produce a half-hour highlights show, both due to be broadcast on RTÉ One with the parade also being streamed live worldwide via the RTÉ Player and the St.Patrick’s Festival App.

With TVM acting as the OB facilities provider for the event, Coco Television will have 12 cameras spread throughout Dublin City to capture the parade with approximately 90 people directly working with Coco on the broadcast. Pat Cowap is slated to direct while Martin Gaughan serves as Producer. Michael Kealy will be the Executive Producer for RTÉ while Managing Director of Coco Stuart Switzer will be the Executive Producer for Coco.

The presenters of this year’s parade are Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh, Aidan Power and Des Cahill. The live coverage of the parade will begin at 12.20pm on RTÉ One on St Patrick’s Day.

With pre-production and planning for the parade taking place over the last number of months, Coco Television this year put out a “shout out” for Irish people abroad who could not make this year’s parade to send Coco St Patrick’s Day messages and videos which will then be broadcast throughout the parade.

Another addition to this year’s festival is the LiveU Camera Operating System, which provides a seamless broadband channel for live video transmission. This system gives Coco the opportunity to broadcast presenter Aidan Power anywhere in the city throughout the day with the footage being seamlessly fed back into the live broadcast.

For the half-hour highlights show – which will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 7pm on St Patrick’s Day – two crews will film around the city starting on Friday, March 13th, and will document a wide array of festive events over the succeeding four days, which will then be edited down to the make the highlights show. Presenters for the highlights show are Sinead Kennedy and Paddy McKenna who will be attending events such as the Irish Boat Races, the Beer and Whiskey Festival, the 5K Road Race and the St Patrick’s Day Céilí.

Post-production for the highlights show will take place at Screen Scene and will feature highlights of the parade as well as events over the four day St Patrick’s Day Festival.

The live coverage of the parade will take place on St Patrick’s Day at 12.20pm on RTÉ One, with the half-hour highlights show taking place the same day at 7pm. The parade will also be streamed worldwide via RTÉ Player and the St Patrick’s Festival App.
