‘Bridesmaids’ star Chris O’Dowd will be in Kilkenny this Sunday for the premiere of the first two episodes of 'Moone Boy' Season 2, as one of the highlights of this year's newly-branded Sky Cat Laughs Comedy Festival.
The Sligo star's rise up the Hollywood food chain has been unstoppable in recent years - with roles in ‘The Sapphires’, ‘This is 40’, HBO’s ‘The Family Tree’ and ‘Girls’, and an upcoming appearance in Marvel’s ‘Thor: the Dark World’.
O’Dowd will be accompanied by his ‘Moone Boy’ co-writer Nick Vincent Murphy, who based many of the storylines on their childhood experiences.
‘Moone Boy’ won the IFTA for Best Entertainment at the 2013 awards ceremony and was also nominated in the categories of Best Director TV Drama (Declan Lowney); Best Script Drama (Chris O’Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy); Best Supporting Actor TV (Chris O’Dowd); and Best Supporting Actress TV (Deirdre O’Kane).
The ‘Moone Boy’ screenings will take place in the Watergate theatre, Kilkenny, at 5pm followed by a Q&A session with O’Dowd and Vincent Murphy on stage.
It was also recently announced that ‘Moone Boy’ has been picked up for a third series, with filming set to resume in late 2013.
For anyone still unfamiliar with ‘Moone Boy’, it follows the adventures of young Roscommon schoolboy Martin Moone (David Rawle) who seeks the advice of his imaginary friend Seán (Chris O’Dowd), to help him navigate everyday problems with his family and local bullies.
Animation for the show's opening credits and imaginary sequences is by Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon, the Oscar-nominated animation studio behind ‘The Secret of Kells’.
‘Moone Boy’ is produced by Grand Pictures, Baby Cow Productions, Hot Cod Productions and Sprout Pictures for Sky 1.
