Michael Fassbender Wins Best Actor at BIFAs | The Irish Film & Television Network

The actor won the award for his lead role in ‘Shame’ by director Steven McQueen (Hunger) in which he plays Brandon Sullivan, a sex addicted New Yorker whose carefully cultivated private life is disrupted when his sister Cissy arrives unannounced for an indefinite stay.

The category also included Irish actor Brendan Gleeson (The Guard, Troy) for his lead role in ‘The Guard’, Neil Maskell (Kill List, Atonement) for ‘Kill List’, Gary Oldman (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; Part 2, The Dark Knight) for ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ and Peter Mullan (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; Part 1, Boy A) for ‘Tyrannosaur’.

The awards were hosted by another Irish actor Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, I.T. Crowd). ‘Tyrannosaur’ won the most awards on the night, picking up three trophies for Best British Independent Film, Best Actress and Paddy Considine was awarded The Douglas HickoxAward for Best Debut Director. ‘Weekend’ won two awards for Best Achievement in Production and Most Promising Newcomer for Tom Cullen. Ralph Fiennes and Kenneth Branagh were feted for career achievements with the Special Jury Prize awarded to Graham Easton.
