Irish Shorts NI Premiere at Foyle Film Fest | The Irish Film & Television Network

Highlights being screened in the competitions first package include ‘The Shore’ by Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, Reservation Road) , a story about a man who fled Northern Ireland during the troubles, returning 25 years later to try and reconcile with his childhood friend and former fiancée which stars Ciaran Hinds (Munich, Road to Perdition). Terry will also be attending the festival to introduce the short and do a Q+A session about Hotel Rwanda, which is also screening as part of the festival.

The second package of the competition includes ‘Noreen’ a short directed by Domhnall Gleeson (What Will Survive of Us), about two inept Gardai, starring father and son team Brendan Gleeson (The Guard, Troy) and Brian Gleeson (Wakewood, The Eagle). Domhnall will also attend the festival to introduce his short and Brendan Gleeson will be attending to introduce feature film ‘The Guard’.

‘Grand Opening’ by Liam O Mochain (W.C., The Book That Wrote Itself), a 13 minute short, in the second package, which tells the story of Paudge, a cranky pub owner who tries to tempt customers in by redecorating his pub regularly starring Donnacha Crowley (An Crisis, Father Ted) will also be having its world premiere at the festival.

Other shorts in the running for ‘Best Irish Short’ in the first package at the festival include ‘Hardy Hands’ by Chris Baugh, ‘Ottoman Empires’ by James Phelan, ‘Promised Land’ directed by Daniel Corcoran, ‘Downpour’ directed by Claire Dix and ‘Cured’ directed by Mary Redmond. ‘Asal’, a Gaelic language film by Tom Sullivan; ‘Spare Change?’ directed by Jordon Ballantine, ‘Shell Shock’ directed by John Corcoran, ‘Pentecost’ by Peter McDonald, starring Don Wycherley (Bachelors Walk, Father Ted) will all be included in the second package.

The 24th Foyle Film Festival takes place from Wednesday 23rd November to Sunday 27th in Derry, Northern Ireland.
