Shooting has started this week for a new feature boxing documentary ‘Gloves and Glory’ which is to focus on Irish women boxers in particular.
The documentary, which is self-funded, is a co production between RML films and Red Splash Productions, is to be directed and produced by Caitriona Costello, founder of Red Splash. Co-producer on the film Rita-Marie Lawlor (Apollo Music Club) and director of photography is Anthony Downes (Spare Room, End It All). The documentary hopes to insight to the world of women's boxing in Ireland.
‘Gloves and Glory’ focuses mainly on three boxers, Dervla Duffy from Ryston Boxing Club, Lynne McEnery from St.Paul’s Boxing Club, Waterford and Shanice Just of Grangecon Boxing Club, as well as interviewing other significant figures in amateur boxing. The documentary is being shot on AVCHD using a Panasonic GH1
It is hoped that the documentary will wrap in January of next year. Post production will be done by Caitriona Costello and it is hoped it will be released ahead of the 2012 Olympic games in London.
