‘Mad Cows’, a Keg Kartoonz produced children’s animation series, will air on RTE Monday, 7th November. Created, written and directed by Noel Kelly, whose previous credits include animation director for the Ken Kartoonz produced series ‘Fadó Fadó’ and as a storyboard artist on 'Simsalagrim'. ‘Mad Cows’ is produced by Michael Algar, former managing director of Pan International Films and the first chief executive of the Irish Film Board.
Featuring the voice talent of Karen Ardiff (Sinners), Morgan C Jones (The Ugly Duckling & Me), Dermot Maginnis (Galactik Football), Doireann Ní Chorragáin (Fair City) and Gavin O’Connor (Rasai na Gaillimhe); all design, storyboarding, animation, compositing, of the series, as well as music, editing and all other aspects of production were carried out in Ireland.
The fifteen 12-minute episodes concern a group of seven cattle who are accidentally hit by a strange bolt of lightning. They discover that they can stand on their hind legs and talk. They “borrow” an RV which happens to be filled with every kind of extreme sports equipment imaginable. It turns out that each of the Cows has an aptitude for various sports.
As they travel around the country participating in sports, they inadvertently foil various villainous plots and land the culprits in the lap of the inept Sergeant O’Brien and his son Garda Michael.
The series was entirely financed and produced in Ireland. Funding was provided by BAI, S481, RTE and Keg Kartoonz.
