Mikael Marcimain (The Laser Man, How Soon is now) is to begin filming his feature film directorial debut ‘Call Girl’ in July. The Newgrange Pictures co-production stars Pernilla August (Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, Director of ‘Daybreak’) and Simon J. Berger (How Soon is now).

‘Call Girl’ is a dense political thriller set in the late seventies, a time of women’s liberation, sexual revolution, Swedish neutrality, nuclear power and social security. It is inspired by the real events of the most shocking political scandal of the Swedish seventies that involved a Minister being linked to prostitution – Bordellhärvan. The screenplay is written by Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten.

The director of photography on the film is Hoyte van Hoytema (The Fighter) with Mimmi Spång (Sebbe) producing. Irish producer is Lesley McKimm (Stella Days, Happy Ever Afters) for Newgrange Pictures.

The feature has received over €1million funding from the Swedish Film Institute with a further €130,000 being granted from the Finnish Film Foundation earlier this month. The Irish Film Board provided €150,000 funding in December 2010 and a further €25,000 in April 2011. The Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Irish co-production will premiere in Autumn 2012.
