'The Pier' and 'Behold the Lamb' at Karlovy

Written, directed, produced and starring Gerard Hurley, Irish feature ‘The Pier’ is screening at Karlovy Vary IFF 2011 as part of the ‘Forum of Independents’, competing for the Independent Camera Award in association with Czech Television. Northern Irish feature 'Behold the Lamb' will also be screened at the festival as part of the 'Another View' section of the festival.

‘The Pier’ centres around Jack McCarthy who has come home from the US after 20 years to find his irascible father Larry who claims to be dying. Jack finds his father fit and on the golf course, he is furious but he sticks around until Larry finally decides to come clean.

The feature from Black Equus Productions shot in and around Cork (Goleen and Schull) in June 2010 and stars Primetime Emmy nominee, Lili Taylor (High Fidelity, The Haunting), Karl Johnston (The Illusionist) and Gerard Hurley (The Pride).

It will be screened on July 4th at 21.30 in the Cas Cinema and again on July 5th at 16.00 in Espace Dorleans Cinema. The director of photography for the feature was Jesse Cain (Two Birds).

Northern Irish feature ‘Behold the Lamb’ will also be screened at Karlovy as part of the ‘Another View’ section of the festival on July 2nd, July 5th and July 9th. ‘Another View’ is a section designed to showcase films with an unusual artistic approach. Written and directed by John McIlduff and produced by Kevin Jackson, it is a darkly comic road movie that follows a depressed accountant Liz (Aoife Duffin), fifty year old Eddie (Nigel O'Neill) and a young tearaway as they travel across Northern Ireland to pick up a lamb. The film was produced through Northern Ireland Screen’s Ultra Low Budget Feature Film Scheme in association with FILM4.

The Karlovy Film Festival will take place from July 1st-9th 2011 in the spa town of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. It is now in its 46th year and it is a non specialised festival with a feature film competition, a documentary competition, East of the West competition category and Forum of Independents which is the category that ‘The Pier’ has been selected for.
