Generator Entertainment Scout Irish Film Locations for 'The Federation'
11 May 2011 :
Sven Hughes, 2009 'Ghost Machine'
Belfast’s Generator Entertainment is currently in development and sourcing Irish locations for new feature film, ‘The Federation’. The spy thriller is set to shoot in September and October of this year and will mark the feature film directorial debut of English writer Sven Hughes (Ghost Machine, Roach). Casting for the film is currently underway.

The feature, written by Sven Hughes, looks to expose a hidden war that is currently being fought between the British and Russian security services through deniable operators and geopolitical stakes. Hughes has some experience of the film’s subject matter, having served as a reserve soldier within UK Special Forces and as a high risk freelance operator and advisor for private and governmental clients. The feature will mark the second time Generator has worked with the filmmaker having produced ‘Ghost Machine’, which was penned by Hughes in 2009 and filmed on location in Northern Ireland.

The producers on board for the upcoming feature include Mark Huffam (Game of Thrones), Simon Bosanquet (Killing Bono, Ripley’s Game) and Aidan Elliott (Whole Lotta Sole, Killing Bono). A spokesperson for ‘The Federation’ tells IFTN that Irish locations are currently being sourced for the film which will also shoot in the UK and Russia in September and October of this year.

Generator’s Simon Bosanquet commented on Sven Hughes new project, saying: "We are delighted to have this exciting script in development at Generator. The Federation offers a fascinating insight into the clandestine and brutal world of contemporary international espionage. Sven Hughes has delivered a breathtaking script. The Federation is something very different from Bond or Bourne: something very fresh. We have every confidence that Sven will now transfer his vision from page to screen with equal flair."

Some of the film’s post-production work is set to be carried out in Belfast with the rest being handled in the UK. The film’s Irish crew members and budget information are TBC and casting for the film is currently underway. 'The Federation' is being cast by Gillian Hawser Casting. It is expected that the film will receive its theatrical release next spring.
