The latest round of Irish Film Board funding decisions have been announced. The funding decisions include development, production and distribution financial support and were published on Wednesday, April 13th. The decisions see support offered to projects such as a new feature entitled ‘Broken Dream’ written by John Boorman (The General) and Neil Jordan (Ondine), to be directed by the latter as well as Neil Jordan’s other feature project, ‘Skippy Dies’. In all, approximately €2,000,000 has been awarded.
The feature films that have received production funding include Neil Jordan and John Boorman’s ‘Broken Dream’ which has been offered a provisional offer of commitment by the IFB. For more information about the project click here.
Venom Limited’s ‘Sanctuary’ which has been written by Gabriel Vargas Vasquez and Norah McGettigan (What’s It Like to be My Mother) who will also direct has received €600,000 and Colin Downey’s ‘The Shadows’ from EMU Productions which has received €100,000.
Where development funding decisions are concerned, €16,000 has been offered to ‘Commonwealth’, written by Christian O’Reilly (Inside I’m Dancing) and Tom Hall (Sensation) who will direct the feature; €20,000 has been promised to Treasure Entertainment for ‘Shrooms 3’ which has been written by Brian O’Neill and Paul Bushe and is to be directed by Jure Matjazic and €50,000 support has been given to Octagon Films for Neil Jordan’s new feature, ‘Skippy Dies’.
Furthermore €30,000 has been offered to Parallel Films for new feature, ‘The End of Sleep’ which has been penned by Mark O’Rowe (Perrier’s Bounty) and directed by John Crowley (Intermission) along with €20,000 which has been offered to Fastnet Films for Lancy Daly’s new project, ‘Dead as Doornails’.
Where Irish co-productions are concerned Subotica Limited have received €360,000 for ‘Flowers of Desire’. The Danish language co-production is written by Simon Staho (Day and Night) and Peter Birro (We Can be Heroes!) and will be directed by Staho and is to shoot in June and July in Wicklow and Kerry. Other co-productions receiving support include Samson Films’ ‘The Moth Diaries’ which is currently in post-production in Canada and has received a further €25,000 from the IFB and Newgrange Pictures’ whose upcoming feature, ‘Call Girl’ has been offered an additional €25,000. The film is written by Marietta Von Hausswolff Von Baumgarten (Allrams höjdarpaket) and will be directed by Mikael Marcimain (Wallander).
Just one Irish animation project received funding; Kavaleer Productions’ 52 x 11 min TV series, ‘The Wordles’ which has been written by Andrew Kavanagh (Hasan Everywhere) and will be directed by Owen Stickler.
Finally, where distribution funding decisions are concerned, €9,780 marketing support has been offered to Eclipse Distribution for Carmel Winter’s ‘Snap’ whilst €75,000 has been granted to Element Distribution for Ian Power’s ‘The Runway’. Blinder Films received €15,000 direct distribution support for ‘100 Hundred Mornings’ written and directed by Conor Horgan (Deep End Dance).
