‘Emmerdale’s infamous country estate will be given a new lease of life this autumn when the glamorous Macey family, with ‘Father Ted’ actor Frank Kelly at the head, sweep into the village ready to make their mark on Home Farm. Frank will play the park of Dermot Macey, a mischievous eccentric who joins other family members played by Jason Merrells (Cutting It) and fellow newcomers Sapphire Elia (Britannia High) and Corrinne Wicks (Doctors).
Frank’s character, Dermot Macey, turns up at ‘Emmerdale’s Home Farm when his houseboat sinks. It will soon become clear to audiences that Dermot has a mischievous streak and a knack for winding his Declan (Jason Merrells) son up the wrong way.
Somewhat dysfunctional as a family, the Maceys have been estranged for a while, but for all their past differences, there is real warmth between this self-made family, who have worked their way up and remain proud of their roots.
Irish actor Frank Kelly has voiced his delight at his new role, saying: “I’m delighted to be joining Emmerdale, I’m a big fan of the show so I’m looking forward to making myself at home in the Woolpack! Dermot‘s a real character and I can’t wait to get started.”
Frank will be joined by two other newcomers, namely Dermot’s former daughter-in-law and Declan’s vivacious ex-wife, Ella, who will be played by Corrinne Wicks and her daughter, who will be played by Sapphire Elia.
Series Producer, Gavin Blyth says: “I’m so pleased to be welcoming three superb actors to our cast at this exciting time. The Maceys are glamorous and dynamic, and their move to the big house signals a new era at Home Farm which will see them firmly at the centre of some of our most compelling storylines.”
The Macey family will appear on ‘Emmerdale’ starting next Monday. The soap broadcasts on weekdays on ITV1 at 7:00pm.
