Eanán Patterson Scores with 'Milo'
28 Jul 2010 :
Eanan Patterson
Irish composer Eanán Patterson will travel to Los Angeles later this year to create and record the score for TCS Productions’ new feature film, ‘Milo’. The film will start shooting in late autumn in L.A. when Patterson will travel over. The composer is currently scoring an untitled feature doc about T.K. Whitaker for TG4.

This October will see Eanán Patterson join the cast and crew of feature film, ‘Milo’ in L.A. He will be joined by fellow Dubliner, Andrew Baird (Soace Truckers), who is the feature’s production designer. The film centres around Milo, a friendly neighbourhood postman - with an unhealthy interest in people’s mail and their life. The film looks to be a creepy-yet-romantic drama about a shy but vengeful postman who manipulates his control over the mail to win the love of a woman on his route.

‘Milo’ is directed by Kelly Farrell (The Green Faerie) and produced by Tobe Sexton (A Homecoming). The cast involved includes Alexis Denisof (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Beth Grant (Crazy Heart, No Country for Old Men), Shalim Ortiz (Heroes, CSI: Miami) and Fernanda Romero (Drag Me to Hell, The Eye)

With regards to his involvement with the film, Eanán tells us that he will journey to L.A. when filming begins in October and start recording live elements of the score in early January of next year. Eanán tells IFTN there is a huge trust between the filmmakers and himself: “I've done a lot of work for this director before so they trust my judgment.”

As to the score itself, Eanán explains the sound he will be looking to achieve: “It will be quite orchestral, string based mainly,”he says. “No brass, but the possibility of some woodwinds. I'm going to be trying out some ideas with guitar / piano harmonic overtones to be used with orchestra as atmospheric elements. Closest thing I can think of is Asche & Spencher's score for ‘Monster's Ball’ - their innovative use of guitar & piano effects in the score is something I think will work with my own ideas.”

Eanán recently finished composing and arranging music for a new Celtic-inspired show directed by Julian Benson called ‘Celtic Rising’ which Dublin’s Burlington Hotel hosted this Summer. His other credits include the short film ‘Janey Mary’.
