Paramount Pictures International has bought the Irish and UK distribution rights to Nick Hamm's Irish comedy ‘Killing Bono’, starring Ben Barnes and Robert Sheehan.
The film, currently being posted in London by editor Bill Sneddon (Four Lions), sees Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) and Sheehan (Cherrybomb) play brothers Neil and Ivan McCormick respectively. The pair formed a band in Dublin in the late 70s - but found themselves constantly compared to their classmates’ band, namely U2.
The film’s cast also features Krysten Ritter (Confessions of a Shopaholic), Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Daed), Ralph Brown (Wayne’s World 2), Luke Treadaway (Clash of the Titans), Pete Postlethwaite (Romeo and Juliet), Stanley Townsend (The Libertine) and Diarmuid Noyes (Situations Vacant). ‘Killing Bono’ shot primarily in Belfast with additional photography taking place in Dublin and London.
Neil McCormick’s autobiographical book ‘Killing Bono: I was Bono’s Doppelgänger’ has been adapted by the same writers who penned ‘The Commitments’, Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais and is produced by Nick Hamm, Mark Huffam from Generator Entertainment (Mickybo and Me, executive producer of The Hours), U2’s former agent Ian Flooks (Confetti) and The Salt Company’s Piers Tempest (Like Minds). It is expected that the film will receive its Irish and UK release in autumn 2010.
