Saoirse Ronan has received two nominations in the US Critics Choice Awards. The 15 year old Irish actress has been nominated in the Best Actress and Best Young Actor/Actress categories for her lead role in Peter Jackson’s latest ‘The Lovely Bones’.
In ‘The Lovely Bones’, Ronan plays Susie Salmon, a young girl who watches her family from the afterlife following her murder. Saoirse has been nominated alongside Emily Blunt for ‘The Young Victoria’, Sandra Bullock for ‘The Blind Side’, Carey Mulligan for ‘An Education’, Gabourey Sidibe for ‘Precious’ and Meryl Streep for ‘Julie & Julia’ in the Best Actress category and will see competition from Jae Head for ‘The Blind Side’, Bailee Madison for ‘Brothers’, Max Records for ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and Kodi Smit-McPhee for ‘The Road’ in the category of Best Young Actor/Actress.
Ronan’s nomination follows a recent win at the Las Vegas Film Critics Society's annual Sierra Awards where she was presented with the best Youth in Film Award for her performance in ‘The Lovely Bones’.
Another Irish related shortlist is HBO’s TV-movie ‘Into the Storm’ – which was directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan and stars Brendan Gleeson hasreceived a nomination, in the category of Best Picture Made for Television. ‘Into the Storm’ is joined by ‘Gifted Hands’, ‘Grey Gardens’ and ‘Taking Chance’ in the category of Best picture Made for Television. ‘Into the Storm’ has also enjoyed a recent Golden Globe nomination for lead actor, Brendan Gleeson in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini Series/Motion Picture Made for Television category.
