Production has wrapped in Dublin on TV3's first two part drama series 'The Guards'. Directed and edited by Graham Cantwell (Anton), the show is being produced by Jonathan Figgis (3 Crosses) and was written and executive produced by Steven Aldridge (Soul Traces, Bedlam) for Legend United productions in association with October Eleven Pictures.
’The Guards’ explores the real-life gritty workings of Ireland’s law enforcement officers as experienced through three young characters – Diarmuid, Donal and Aiden. Ambitious and ruthless, the threesome will do anything to get the job done and secure a conviction.
The series stars Emmett Scanlan (The Phone, The Clinic), Steven Aldridge, Chris Patrick Simpson (The Magdalene Sisters, Fifty Dead Men Walking), Aisling McLaughlin (The Clinic, Fair City), Amy Joyce Hastings (The Tudors, Fools of Fortune), Rachel Rath (Savage, Anton) and Gordon Mahon (The Clinic).
The production was announced at the launch of TV3's autumn schedule in August 2009. Post production will take place between Dublin and London with IFTA nominated composer Anna Rice (Anton) set to score the series. Director of Photography is Nicolas Schroeder (Care Giver, Sunshine).
Director Graham Cantwell tells IFTN "We had a very tight schedule working on 'The Guards', but thanks to an incredibly resourceful and talented crew and cast, and huge support from An Garda Siochana Press Office we managed to pull together a unique and exciting two part drama that we hope audiences will find fresh and entertaining."
It is expected that ‘The Guards’ will broadcast on TV3 next February.
