Irish Cinematographer Mark McCauley (No Go: The Free Derry Story) was last night awarded the Guild of TV Cameramen’s Award for Excellence for his work on ‘Ross Kemp Returns to Afghanistan’.
The series is the follow up to the original ‘Ross Kemp in Afghanistan’, the SKY One documentary series that was fronted by actor Ross Kemp (Eastenders) and followed British soldiers fighting in Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission against the Taliban. Both series involved Kemp and a small crew, including Mark, following troops fighting in Helmand Province, documenting their part in Operation Herrick. The second series was shot for Sky’s HD channel as a Tiger Aspect/Mongoose TV production.
The Guild of TV Cameramen award ceremony was held in London’s South Bank on Tuesday, October 6th.
A delighted Mark tells IFTN: “I'm honoured to have been selected for this award. To be chosen by my peers and have my work recognised is something special. It’s also a big thrill to receive the award at the British Film Institute. On the programme we set out to achieve the highest possible picture quality under difficult circumstances and I hope we achieved that.”
Awards organiser John Tarbey tells IFTN: “I thought Mark’s win was very well deserved, he is an excellent cameraman.”
