Best Canadian Feature Film honours at the Toronto Film Festival went to Ruba Nadda's ‘Cairo Time’.
Produced by David Collins of Samson Films and Daniel Iron of Foundry Films, the feature, set in Egypt, stars Patricia Clarkson (Married Life), Tom McCamus (Killshot) and Alexander Siddig (Syriana) and examines a brief, unexpected love affair.
Irish creative talent involved in the production of ‘Cairo Time’ included composer Niall Byrne (The Honeymooners) and production designer Tamara Conboy (Once). The winners were announced on Saturday the 19th of September.
Following the win Managing Director of Samson Films, David Collins commented "I'm delighted for Ruba in particular who has worked so hard to get this film made."
Other winners included Lee Daniels’ ‘Precious’ which won the People’s Choice Award, Leanne Pooley’s ‘The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls’ which won the People’s Choice Documentary Award, Sean Byrne’s ‘The Loved Ones’ and ‘The Man Beyond the Bridge’, directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar which won the FIPRESCI Discovery award.
