‘Colony’ the Irish documentary from directors Carter Gunn & Ross McDonnell, which explores the unexplainable phenomenon of Colony Collapse Disorder which has left landscapes of empty beehives all across America, has been chosen to be screened in the ‘Real to Reel’ Category at the 34th International Toronto Film Festival in September.
Produced by Morgan Bushe and Macdara Kelleher for Fastnet Films, ‘Colony’ documents a time of unprecedented crisis in the world of the honeybee through the eyes of both veteran beekeeper, David Mendes, and Lance and Victor Seppi, two young brothers getting into beekeeping when most are getting out. As Mendes tries to save the nation's collapsing hives, the Seppi's try to keep their business alive amidst a collapsing economy.
Financed by the Irish Film Board the documentary runs at 88 minutes.
Other Irish features 'Ondine' and 'Cracks' will also screen at the prestigious festival.
