‘CHE’ Doc Series to Air On TG4

Tweet ‘CHE’, a four part documentary series beginning this Thursday 12th March on TG4 at 9.30pm, looks at the revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara through the eyes of Socialist Joe Higgins. Last Autumn, Joe Higgins set out to discover what Che Guevara the quintessential guerrilla fighter, a man whose courage and integrity he has always admired - means to the people of Che’s homeland today. The doc follows Higgins on his five week journey across Latin America exploring ideals that remain after eras of dictatorships and witnessing the mass movements that are spreading across the continent. Speaking on his experience and the relevance to Guevara, Joe comments: “Che’s guerrilla methods are no longer relevant and yet he remains a symbol of the fight for a better and more equal society. People I met on my journey are hungry for change and they are fighting for it through mass mobilization and the ballot box. It was clear to me that just about everybody I asked had admiration for Che no matter what their own political beliefs.” “In a world where corruption is rife in establishment politics and where people sometimes feel powerless to change things despite living in democracies, I think Che remains a symbol of incorruptibility, of the struggle for rights and justice something we all aspire to but which today must be fought for through political engagement rather than armed struggle.” Produced by Seán Ó Cualáin and directed by Kim Bartley, the series is produced by independent production company Sónta.
