Two Grammy Nods for Musical ‘Once’ | The Irish Film & Television Network

The Dublin-shot musical is nominated for an award in the ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack Album’ category, which covers film, television and visual media. The music was composed by the film’s stars – The Frames’ frontman Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.

The ‘Once’ soundtrack will compete with soundtrack’s from Julie Taymor’s ‘Across the Universe’; Bill Condon’s ‘Dreamgirls’; Adam Shankman’s ‘Hairspray’, and the Beatles movie ’Love’.

Hansard and Irglova’s composition ‘Falling Slowly’ from the low-budget flic is also in line for an award in the ‘Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media’ category, which is awarded to the songwriter.

‘Falling Slowly’ will compete with four other film tunes in the category - ‘Guaranteed’ from Sean Penn’s ‘Into the Wild’; ‘Love You I Do’ from Bill Condon’s ‘Dreamgirls’; ‘The Song of the Heart’ from animated feature ‘Happy Feet’; and ‘You Know My Name’ from Martin Campbell’s ‘Casino Royale’.

‘Once’ is a modern-day musical set on the streets of Dublin, telling the story of a busker and an immigrant, who fall in love over an eventful week as they write, rehearse and record a number of songs. The film is produced by Samson Films with finance from Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board.

The awards will be presented on February 10th, 2008, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
