Cork director Mark Mahon’s debut feature ‘Strength and Honour’ has been selected to screen at this year’s Rome Film Festival, which takes place from October 18th-27th in the Italian capital. His project ‘Freedom Within the Heart’ has also been chosen to participate in the New Cinema Network – Focus Europe Section, which runs from the 20th-24th October at the Festival.
In 2005, ‘Freedom Within the Heart’ earned Mahon an Action on Film award in Hollywood for ‘Best Screenplay Unproduced’.
‘Strength and Honour’ has also been chosen to screen at the Seville Film Festival, which takes place from 2nd-10th November 2007.
‘Strength and Honour’ received its debut screening at the Cannes Film Festival in May of this year. The movie, which filmed entirely on location in Cork during Autumn 2006, boasts a stellar cast including Michael Madsen (Sin City, Reservoir Dogs), Vinnie Jones (Snatch, Swordfish), Patrick Bergin (When the Sky Falls, Sleeping With the Enemy) and veteran actor Richard Chamberlain. Irish actors Pat Shortt, Gail Fitzpatrick, Finbar Furey and Michael Rawley also give strong performances in supporting roles.
The film follows the story of a single father (Madsen) who decides to break his dying wife's last wish to not box again in order to save his young son from certain death.
