'The Sea' Sets Sail for Irish Cinemas this Friday
16 Apr 2014 | Nominated for four IFTAs, including Best Film and Best Leading Actor, and winner of the Best Supporting Actress award for Sinéad Cusack, ‘The Sea’ is a drama about a man who returns to the sea where he spent his childhood as he tries to accept the deaths of those he loved as a child and as an adult. John Banville wrote both the original Man Booker Prize-winning novel and the adapted screenplay, while Stephen Brown directed the film in his feature debut.

Three-part TV series ‘Michael Smiley: Something to Ride Home About’ is a Green Inc Film and Television production for BBC One Northern Ireland made with the support of Northern Ireland Screen Agency. The first episode will air next Monday.

150 Jobs Announced for Mayo Based Irish TV Station

Fassbender, Gleeson & Abrahamson to attend European Premiere of ‘Frank’
15 Apr 2014 | Director Lenny Abrahamson and co-stars Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson will attend the European premiere of their new film ‘Frank’ in Dublin next week. The screening will take place on Thursday April 24th at the Light House Cinema, Smithfield. The film is about a wannabe musician Jon (Gleeson) who joins an alternative electronic group led by the mysterious Frank (Fassbender).

‘Jack and Ralph Plan A Murder’ to have World Premiere at LA Comedy Festival
11 Apr 2014 | Black comedy ‘Jack and Ralph Plan a Murder’ will have its World Premiere at the LA Comedy Festival. It was one of the 19 feature films selected for what is one of the largest comedy festivals in the USA, featuring film, live comedy acts and a screenplay competition. The festival runs from the 23rd of April to the 6th of May with all film screenings and live shows taking place at the Let Live Theatre in the heart of Hollywood.

Interview with Nick Ryan – Winner of the George Morrison Documentary Feature IFTA
11 Apr 2014 | ‘The Summit’, a documentary feature charting the tragic 2008 K2 expedition during which Limerick mountain climber Ger McDonell and other mountaineers died, won the George Morrison Documentary Feature Award at the IFTAs last week. IFTN spoke with Nick Ryan after his win at the IFTAs to find out how he felt having won the award, what were the difficulties of making ‘The Summit’, and what are his next moves as a director and producer.

‘Last Days on Mars’ Out in Irish cinemas Today
11 Apr 2014 | The debut feature of Ruairi Robinson (‘Fifty Percent Grey’, ‘The Silent City’), science fiction horror-thriller ‘Last Days on Mars’, is out in cinemas nationwide today. Earning Robinson an IFTA nomination for Best Director, the film sees a number of astronauts go on a mission to Mars which goes horribly wrong. Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas, Romola Garei and Olivia Williams lead the cast.

Brie Larson Cast in Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’
10 Apr 2014 | Brie Larson, whose recent credits include ‘21 Jump Street’, ‘Don Jon’ and ‘Short Term 12’, has signed up to star in ‘Room’, the fifth feature of acclaimed Irish director Lenny Abrahamson. ‘Room’ is based on Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel, and Donoghue will be writing the adapted screenplay. Ed Guiney of Element Pictures will produce the film.
