In what many have described as a golden year for the Irish Film and Television industry, we look back over some of the biggest and most interesting stories of the past year for St Patrick's Day.

First off, who can forget January 14th of this year when LA turned green when the Oscar nominations were announced? This year featured an unprecedented nine Oscar nominations for Irish films and talent, including two films nominated for Best Picture.

Another great moment came the day before the Oscar nominations were announced when the Irish Film Board launched their 2016 slate. At the event, six-time Oscar nominated director Jim Sheridan likened Ireland’s success in 2015 to having three teams left in the World Cup, a sentiment echoed by ‘Room’ filmmakers Lenny Abrahamson and Ed Guiney, who received their first nominations the next day

The Golden Year didn’t end after the Oscars however. St Patrick’s weekend this year features a massive three Irish films hitting cinemas as well as the re-release of an old Irish classic and a slew of Irish films on television.

Another landmark moment over the past year. The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD talking about the impact the recent filming of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will have, a day before the film is set to be released to the world. The film went on to be a huge critical and commercial success, getting nominated for five Oscars, making over $2bn at the Box Office. ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ will return to Ireland to film later in the year.

With the day that's in it, we thought we would re-visit 'Patrick's Day' writer/director Terry McMahon telling us all about the films that inspired him into making one of Ireland's most talked about films of 2015.
