New York Film Festival will take place September 25th – October 11th
Irish films ‘The Lobster’ and ‘Brooklyn’ have both been added to the main slate of the New York Film Festival, scheduled to take place from September 25th – October 11th.

26 films are scheduled to play on the main slate of the festival with ‘The Lobster’ and ‘Brooklyn’ (both scheduled to screen at Toronto also) joining Robert Zemeckis’ new drama ‘The Walk’ starring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Steven Spielberg’s premiering ‘Bridge of Spies’ with Tom Hanks in the lead.

A surreal, romantic drama and winner of the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, ‘The Lobster’ stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz with a supporting cast including Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, John C.Reilly, Olivia Colman and Ashley Jensen.

Shot at Parknasilla in Co. Kerry in Spring 2014, ‘The Lobster’ is written by Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou, directed by Lanthimos and produced by Ed Guiney, Lee Magiday, Ceci Dempsey and Yorgos Lanthimos. Executive Producers are Andrew Lowe, Tessa Ross and Sam Lavender with Isabel Davis as the lead executive for the BFI Film Fund. The film was developed by Element and Irish finance for the film came from the Irish Film Board with Rory Gilmartin as the lead executive for the IFB.

Element Pictures will release ‘The Lobster’ to Irish cinemas on October 16.

‘Brooklyn’ screened at Sundance earlier this year and was acquired by Fox Searchlight for $9m, the second biggest deal of the festival in 2015. The film has also received highly positive reviews from US publications such as Variety, The Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Post.

‘Brooklyn’ is an Irish/British co-production from Wildgaze Films, Finola Dwyer Productions, Parallel Films and Item 7. It was co-financed by the Irish Film Board and filmed on location in Wexford, Dublin and Wicklow, as well as Montreal and New York.

Directed by IFTA and BAFTA winning director John Crowley (‘Intermission’, ‘Boy A’) and adapted by Nick Hornby from Colm Tóibin’s novel of the same name, ‘Brooklyn’ stars Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan as a young Irish immigrant in 1950’s New York whose blossoming relationship with an Italian plumber Tony (Emory Cohen),is threatened when tragedy calls her home. She returns to Ireland where her attraction for a charming local man called Jim (Domhnall Gleeson), grows.

Lionsgate UK will release ‘Brooklyn’ in cinemas in Ireland and the UK on 6 November with Fox Searchlight releasing the film in the US on the same day.

The New York Film Festival will take place from September 25th – October 11th.
