‘Girona’ stars Irish actress Séainín Brennan and John Hannah and is now in post-production
Irish short film musical ‘Bonsoir Luna’ selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner next month, ‘Girona’ starring Séainín Brennan and John Hannah now in post-production and Carl Finnegan’s ‘An Irish Father’ almost ready to hit festival circuit.

‘Bonsoir Luna’ selected for Cannes Short Film Corner

Aminal Productions new short film ‘Bonsoir Luna’ has been selected to participate in the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival 2015.

‘Bonsoir Luna’ is an all-sung, Irish language musical that tells the story of a romance between street artist, Duke, and, Luna, who works in a shopping arcade's coffee shop nearby. Luna's coffee shop is run by her mother, Paula, who disapproves of Duke and his trade. Duke and Luna have kept their romance a secret, but now Duke must round up his fellow street artist friends to help him win over Paula when she nears discovering their secret and if she did, would force the two apart.

Donncha Gilmore wrote and directed the 15 minute film, which was produced by David Cullinan, PJ Moloney, and Philip Hickey for Aminal Productions with the support of The Arts Council.

Federico Rea acted as Cinematographer, and Glenn Whelan, as Art Director, while Gilmore also edited the picture.

Michael-David McKernan and Hilary Bowen Walsh star as Duke and Luna, respectively, amongst a cast that also features Susie Young, Grainne Boyle, Aislinn Ní Uallacháin, Gemma Doherty, Eoghan Regan, and Garret Farrell.

The film’s music was written and arranged by Josh Reichental, with additional contributions by Stephen O’Brien. Recording of the music was carried out at Lamplight Studios, with Stephen Dunne as recording supervisor.

Writer/Director Donncha Gilmore said: ‘I wanted to make an Irish film that was gleefully and unapologetically optimistic. I also felt that it would be a great opportunity to present the Irish language in a new light, by using the musical genre to showcase its lyricism.’

Luna was shot in September 2014 around Dublin, and it is hoped the inclusion in the Short Film Corner will mark the beginning of an international festival run.

The film has already received development commitments from the Arts Council for a feature adaptation by Aminal Productions, which is still in the early stages.

Northern Irish short film ‘Girona’ now in post-production

A Pilot Street Productions picture ‘Girona’ is now in post-production.

Séainín Brennan (‘The Fall’) joined celebrated actors John Hannah (‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’) and Frankie McCafferty (‘Philomena’) to star in ‘Girona’ which filmed this month in Northern Ireland.

The film is written and directed by Paul B. McGuigan and produced by Eamonn Devlin.

The film follows a lonely man who checks in to a boutique hotel in the centre of Belfast. For nearly three decades Hart (played by John Hannah) has sought sanctuary in the anonymity of the same suite, in the same hotel, on the same night of the year. As before, he has reserved an adjoining room with an interconnecting door that has remained steadfastly locked… until tonight.

A sense of impending mortality and the hint of a life nearing completion compel Hart to turn the key for the first time and into his life walks Sophie (Séainín Brennan), a beguiling young escort with the hint of a dark past.

Over the course of this long stormy night, Sophie causes him to contemplate a life lived in the lonely shadow of a dead wife, finally confront his profound grief and for the first time in over a quarter of a century, experience the privilege and joy of being alive.

Speaking about the project Seainin said: ‘When I first read ‘Girona’, I was fascinated by Paul McGuigan’s script. I immediately knew that I wanted to play Sophie... She is so intriguing. I knew it would be a challenge but I accepted straight away. Plus I was really looking forward to working with John Hannah. He is such an incredible actor.’
