One Mile Down: Siberian Scramble
The compelling Irish-produced feature documentary is to have its World Premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh next Saturday, July 9th at 4pm in the Pálás Theatre.

It tells the dramatic story of six daredevil motorbike riders and one fearless driver of an Uaz 4x4 off-road vehicle, who embark on an epic Siberian journey to drive 800km on treacherous ice over Lake Baikal. At stake are the very lives of these intrepid riders, as they traverse this hazardous and severe landscape, in their thrilling quest for not one, but two Guinness World Records.

Lake Baikal in Siberia is the deepest lake in the world. With a depth of over 1 mile and a length of 800km, it contains 20% of the world's fresh water. During the winter months the surface of the lake freezes over, leaving 800km of treacherously thin ice. One crack or wrong move and you could suffer a very cold descent to the depths of this frozen abyss.

One Mile Down: Siberian Scramble follows the dreams of two Irishmen, motorbike adventure enthusiast Declan McEvoy and one-eyed thrill seeker Gary O’Keeffe, as they put together an international team who in February 2020, drove for 7 days across the ice of Lake Baikal in the middle of a minus 40-degree Siberian winter. During which they set two Guinness World Records: he Longest Motorcycle Journey on Ice & The Longest 4x4 Journey on Ice.

Ultimately, after several setbacks and despite some growing discontent, the team must rely on their strong friendship and willpower to navigate across the treacherous ice and make it to the top of the massive lake Baikal. This film is the story of two determined Irishmen realising their mutual dream, born out of curiosity and fuelled by a passion for discovering the people and places in this vast world.

Directed by Alexander Hick, One Mile Down: Siberian Scramble is written and produced by  by Darragh Kettle & Gary O’Keeffe. The film also stars Gary O’Keeffe, Declan McEvoy, Kevin Emans, Mark Kemp, Karolis Mieliauskas, Fritz Kreis, and Mariano Carloni.

Executive produced by world renowned cinematographer and director Claudio von Planta (Long Way Round, Long Way Up; with Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor, Race To Dakar, Chasing the Jet Stream). Film Network Ireland are handling worldwide distribution for the documentary.

Tickets are currently on sale for the screening, which is followed by a Q&A with the crew, through the Fleadh website - here.
