Kerry Film Festival Announce 2016 Programme
23 Sep 2016 : Katie McNeice
The upcoming festival will run from October 19th-23rd and will see the premiere of two Kerry features, ‘Making It’ and ‘Brackenmore’.

The short film programme is an integral part of the Kerry Film Festival schedule and this year sees submissions from filmmakers in Kerry to Japan, Peru and even further afield. The Kerry Connection programme also highlights the wealth of talent in Co. Kerry.

Maeve McGrath, KFF Artistic Director:

“The festival will open in Cinema Killarney with Kerry Made feature film, ‘Making It’ from Director Eamonn Norris. We are delighted to showcase a film produced and filmed in Kerry as our opening film in the festival. Another Kerry-made feature film, ‘Brackenmore’ will close the festival.”

In between there are another three Irish premieres of celebrated feature films including ‘A good Wife’, which screened at Sundance this year. Musical ‘Junjun’ and ‘We are X’ will also enjoy Irish debuts.

Documentary title ‘Versus’ on the life of Ken Loach will also screen in association with IFI Education. Director Colm Quinn of ‘Mattress Men’ will also be in attendance for the screening of his project.

New to the festival this year is the Short Film Market, with a special focus on the diaspora in the Irish in a day-long event in Killarney, which will explore short film on the national and international stage. Additional panel discussions, masterclasses and Q&A sessions feature in the line-up.

Maeve McGrath, KFF Artistic Director also stated:

“The short film has always had centre stage in the Kerry Film Festival Programme and this year we have an extraordinary selection of films screening. Along with that, we are placing a focus on the short film form at our

Short Film Market with some very exciting speakers and guests invited.”

The Kerry Film Festival will again connect with the Izmir International Film Festival and Nickel Film Festival in an exchange of short films. This year will also introduce a selection of short films from Kendal Mountain Festival, the UK's premier mountain film festival.
