Short film is directed by Tom Sullivan and written by Muirinn Lane Kelley
The Irish Film Board (IFB) funded short film ‘Personal Development’ has been selected to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival, founded by Robert De Niro.

The short film joins the Irish feature film ‘Jimmy’s Hall’, which receives its North American premiere at the event.

Directed by Tom Sullivan (‘Asal’, ‘Mechanic’), ‘Personal Development’ follows Fintan, whose already fragile relationship with his youngest daughter is put to the test with the arrival of some unexpected news. This is the international premiere of the short which was written by Muirinn Lane Kelley and produced by Alan Keane for Hot Drop Films. The short stars David Murray (‘Amber’, ‘The Guarantee’) and Kathleen Breathnach.

Producer Alan Kane said: ‘The team involved are very honoured that the International Premiere for our film will be at an A-list Oscar accredited festival such as Tribeca. ‘Personal Development’ is a universal story that explores the relationship between a father and his children after a difficult divorce, which it does with great heart and humour. We hope that New York audiences will connect with the film, ensuring that ‘Personal Development’ will travel around the world showcasing Ireland as a place burgeoning with great filmmaking talent. The Irish cast and crew on this film were a great team to work with and we want to thank them for all the work they have put into making this film.’

The Tribeca Film Festival is an Academy-accredited festival. Irish short film ‘The Crush’, which screened at Tribeca in 2010, went on to be nominated for an Oscar the following year. The 2014 winner of the Best Narrative Short award – UK film ‘The Phone Call’ - later won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at this year’s ceremony. Previous Irish films to screen at Tribeca include shorts ‘Rubaí’, ‘Fear of Flying’ and ‘Noreen’, as well as feature films ‘Byzantium’ directed by Neil Jordan, ‘What Richard Did’ directed by Lenny Abrahamson and ‘The Guard’ directed by John Michael McDonagh.

Directed by Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty, ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ tells the true story of Jimmy Gralton, who set up a dance hall on a rural crossroads in an Ireland on the brink of civil war. The film is receiving its North American premiere at the festival and previously screened at Cannes and Busan. ‘Personal Development’ and Jimmy’s Hall have both received funding from the Irish Film Board.

As IFTN previously reported, Stephen Fingleton’s debut feature film ‘The Survivalist’ will make its’ world premiere in competition at the festival, while Oscar-nominated Northern Irish short film ‘Boogaloo and Graham’ will also be screening.

The Tribeca Film Festival will be held from April 15th to 26th 2015.
