The ICCL Human Rights Short Film Awards are calling for entries, Cartoon Saloon’s animated short ‘Somewhere Down The Line’ playing this week at Clermont-Ferrand and Aidan McAteer’s animated short ‘Deadly’ to be screened at the Cinequest Film Festival later this month.
ICCL Human Rights Short Film Awards call for entries
Applications are now open for the 2015 ICCL Human Rights Film Awards.
Founded in 2009 by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), the ICCL Human Rights Film Awards is open to amateur and professional filmmakers internationally who wish to engage with a human rights issue through the submission of a short film, with a duration of 12 minutes or less.
The competition has attracted a host of outstanding films and filmmaking talent since its launch in 2009. Examples of past shortlisted entries are available to view on the competition website.
Shortlisted films are selected by renowned experts in the film industry, including award-winning writers, directors, producers, animators and actors.

Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Somewhere Down The Line’ screening at Clermont-Ferrand
The Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival is now underway, with Irish short ‘Somewhere Down the Line’ amongst the line-up of this year’s festival.
Produced by Academy Award-nominated studio Cartoon Saloon, ‘Somewhere Down the Line’ was directed by Julien Regnard and examines a man's life, loves and losses which are shown through the exchanges he has with the passengers in his car. The film will be screening under the International Competition section of the festival.
The film was produced under the Frameworks short-film scheme, which is co-financed by the IFB, RTÉ and the Arts Council. At the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh the film received a special mention in the Best Animation Sequence in a Short Film category. It also screened at the Cork Film Festival in November.
Irish Animated Short ‘Deadly’ to screen at Cinequest Film Festival
IFB funded animated short ‘Deadly’ is slated to screen at the Cinequest Film Festival, which occurs from occurs February 24th – March 8th, in the Silicon Valley / San Jose, California.
‘Deadly’, which was the winner of the Don Quijote Award for Animation in Short Film at the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh, tells the story of Boney, a working stiff who doesn’t care about his dead-end job…until he meets a spirited little old lady called Bridie.
The short film was directed by Aidan McAteer and produced by Shannon George – both of Kavaleer Productions.
The Cinequest Film Festival will run from February 24th – March 8th, in the Silicon Valley/San Jose, California.
