Irish feature film ‘The Inside’ will receive its world premiere at Film4’s Frightfest on August 26 in London.

The psychological horror is one of three Irish films screening at the UK festival with Conor McMahon’s ‘Stitches’ and Jon Wright’s ‘Grabbers’ also set to be shown.

’The Inside’ marks actor and cinematographer Eoin Macken’s feature film directorial debut and stars ‘Charlie Casanova’ actor Emmett J. Scanlan and Czech actress Tereza Srbova (St. Trinian’s).

The film sees five girls break into an abandoned warehouse to celebrate a birthday, only to be terrorised by, not only a violent group of people, but also a supernatural presence which leaves them no escape.

Macken wrote the script and filmed the horror in Ireland last year. He also produced and was the cinematographer on set, with David Laird providing additional cinematography assistance. Franco Noonan (Charlie Casanova) co-produced, with Scanlan the executive producer.

In addition to Dublin-born Scanlan, a number of Irish actors star, including Karl Argue (Where the Sea Used to be), Kellie Blaise (The Borgias), Siobhan Cullen (The Clinic), Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones), Sean Stewart (Swan Song: Story of Occi Byrne) and Liam Heffron also feature.

Jen Moynan provided the costumes on set, while Nadai Macari was the makeup artist.

Macken edited the feature in post production, with Greg French looking after the sound design and effects. Hugh Noonan was the documentarian and Farris Gerard was the still photographer.

Macken previously worked as cinematographer on Terry McMahon’s award-winning ‘Charlie Casanova’, in which Scanlan starred, and Mark O’Connor’s ‘Stalker’, which was recognised at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh awards. He has had roles in successful TV series ‘The Tudors’ and the BBC’s ‘The Adventures of Merlin’.

Speaking of his feature film directorial debut, Macken said he “wanted to show the worst side of humanity and contrast that with the horror of the supernatural, which has no compunction between good and evil.” He described ‘The Inside’ as a “hard, violent, visceral psychological horror, which gets into your belly.”

‘The Inside’ is expected to be released in time for Halloween 2012, with Left Film Sales distributing.

The film will have its world premiere at the Film4 Frighfest in London on Sunday, August 26.

Conor McMahon’s Dublin-shot horror/ comedy ‘Stitches’ – which will receive its UK premiere as previously reported on IFTN – will be screened on August 24 with Belfast-born director Jon Wright’s ‘Grabbers’ to be shown on August 23.
