Irish Premiere Of ‘Songs for Amy’ Proves Huge Draw At Galway Film Fleadh
02 Jul 2012 :
'Songs for Amy'
The European and Irish premiere of ‘Songs for Amy’ has proved one of the big draws at the forthcoming Galway Film Fleadh with tickets for the screening selling out within a day of going on sale last week.

Produced by Irish production company Sonny and Skye, ‘Songs for Amy’ is directed by BAFTA and Emmy-nominated Konrad Begg (Top Gear) and produced by Fiona Graham and Angela Murray.

The award-winning film will receive its European and Irish premiere on July 11 at the Town Hall Theatre in Galway as part of the Fleadh.

The film is a darkly comedic love story, inspired by the music scene of the west of Ireland and was filmed and set in Galway. The story follows Sean O 'Malley (Sean Maguire), a struggling Galway musician who writes an album for the love of his life, Amy (Lorna Anderson) in the hope of redeeming himself.

Its supporting cast includes James Cosmo (Sons of Anarchy), Kevin Ryan (RAW), Alexandra Weaver (The IT Crowd), Olwyn Boyle (Take Me Out), Gavin Mitchell (You Instead) and Patrick Bergin (Sleeping with the Enemy).

Producers have also confirmed that they will be releasing an album called ‘The Songs For Amy' which will feature the songs from the film. The album will include original music by Jim McKee and Ultan Conlon, who are the composers behind Sean’s ‘Songs for Amy’.

The world premiere for ‘Songs For Amy’ took place at the Newport Beach Film Festival last May and won the Jury Award for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking.

Last month Sonny and Skye were left disappointed at the Cannes Film Festival market when their sold out screening had to be cancelled due to last minute technical difficulties. Organisers at Cannes apologised and invited the producers to screen the film in 2013.

The Galway Film Fleadh takes place between July 10-15. For the full Fleadh programme please visit www.galwayfilmfleadh.com . See IFTN’s diary for all upcoming Fleadh events, including masterclass application deadlines.
