John Ford Ireland Film Symposium Tickets Now On Sale
21 May 2012 :
John Ford
Tickets for the inaugural John Ford Ireland Film Symposium officially went on sale last Friday, May 18.

Those interested in attending the much-anticipated event can now buy tickets here.

Tickets for individual events, including the opening night screening of ‘The Iron Horse’, and a public interview with celebrated film historian Peter Bogdanovich, follow the official release of symposium season passes, which went on sale earlier last week.

Season passes for the four-day event are priced at €80, or €65 with a discount rate for IFTA and BAFTA Members and concession rates for students/OAP.

The IFTA-run symposium will celebrate the legacy of the late Irish-American director John Ford, and will take place in various venues around Dublin from June 7-10.

As detailed on IFTN earlier this month, a number of award-winning filmmaking and John Ford experts will gather in Dublin to discuss the legendary filmmaker’s work, his influences on modern-day directors, as well as present a number of screenings of Ford’s much-loved films.

The official symposium programme features a host of panel discussions and screenings, including an opening night screening of ‘The Iron Horse’, complete with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. The screening will take place at the National Concert Hall, with tickets available from www.nch.ie

Dan Ford, John Ford’s grandson, will make the opening address, followed by acclaimed film historian Joseph McBride, who will present the John Ford Opening Lecture at the IFI on Friday June 8. This will be followed by a screening of the ‘Directed by John Ford’ documentary, which was directed by celebrated director Peter Bogdanovich. Bogdanovich will also be on hand to present a public interview the same day which will also take place at the IFI.

As reported on IFTN, Oscar-nominated director Stephen Frears has been confirmed to join directors John Boorman, Jim Sheridan, Thaddeus O’Sullivan, Brian Kirk and writers Colin Bateman and Pat McCabe in the Ford Film Hub.

Editing supremo and Clint Eastwood’s go-to man Joel Cox (Million Dollar Baby/Gran Torino/J Edgar) will hold a masterclass the same day at 2pm. Interested parties should contact IFTA.

Other symposium highlights include the Dublin premiere screening of Sé Merry Doyle’s ‘John Ford: Dreaming The Quiet Man’, screening Sunday afternoon June 10.

The symposium will close on Sunday June 10 with a 60th anniversary screening of ‘The Quiet Man,’ which is presented in partnership with the IFI. The screening will take place in the IFI at 6.45pm, with tickets available from www.ifi.ie.

Multi Oscar-winning actor and director Clint Eastwood became the first recipient of the John Ford Ireland Award, awarded in the late director’s honour to an industry contributor who embodies the same innovation and skills as Ford.
