Independent Film Festival Boston

Seven Irish shorts, two of them animated, have been selected to screen at the Independent Film Festival, Boston – overseen by creative advisor Casey Affleck – which runs from 24-30 April.

Dawn Morrissey, director of the Irish film festival, Boston, applauded the strong Irish presence at this year’s event.

‘We are very pleased to be able to co-present such stellar work by Irish film makers at this year’s Independent Film Festival in Boston. Now in its second decade, the internationally acclaimed Independent film festival is renowned for its programming. The Irish filmmakers chosen should know that competition to screen at this festival is very competitive. Casey Affleck, now their creative advisor, will be present at the festival,’ she said.

The following are the Irish short films between 26-28 April at the Somerville Theatre in Boston: ‘The Attendant’ (directed by Ian Beattie); ‘Two Hearts’ (Darren Thornton); Home (Aoife Kelleher); The End of the Counter (Laura McGann); Two Wheels Good (Barry Gene Murphy). The animated shorts are ‘After You’ (Damien O'Connor) and ‘Irish Folk Furniture’ (Tony Donoghue).

Fingal Film Festival

Managing Director Liz Kenny has also unveiled a new media panel consisting of BAFTA-winning writer and director Aisling Walsh; IFTA-nominated DoP Ciaran Tanham; Shane Collins, animation Director of Brown Bag Films; and finally Tyrone D Murphy, CEO of Universal film magazine.

We are being quite specific in our 2013 schedule layout, ensuring we cater for all age demographic, making the festival more accessible for people who just want to see a good film.’

Ms Kenny added: ‘We had a huge response internationally this year. We have also had a huge response from Irish Media colleges this year, as we made it a priority to engage with film students and embed the festival at grass root level with the people who will be the future of Irish Filmmaking.’

Workshops at this year’s festival this year will be hosted by an arrya of industry talent including Brown Bag Films’ head of development Jennie Stacey; IFTA-nominee Edwina Forkin of Zanzibar Films; Director of Photography Tim Palmer; and director Robert Quinn (‘Roy’, ‘Primeval’, ‘The Clinic’).
