Alberto Barbera appointed director of the Venice Film Festival

Alberto Barbera has been appointed director of the Venice International Film Festival. Barbera, 48, formerly director of the Torino Film Festival, has a four-year mandate to head the artistic side of the Venice event. He was appointed earlier this month. The Torino Film Festival, a prestigious event in Italy, is dedicated to emerging international directors. Last years festival ended on a down note with festival curator Felice Laudadio announcing he would not be seeking reappointment and the winning film, Gianni Amelio's 'The Way We Laugh', was badly received by the critics and buyers.
