Filmed on location in Northern Ireland in 2019, Nowhere Special has been selected to feature in the Horizons section of the 2020 Venice Film Festival.
The full line-up for the Festival, which runs from September 2nd-12th, has been announced and marks one of the first major film festivals to take place physically following the Covid-19 outbreak.
Inspired by true events Nowhere Special is directed and produced by Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty, Bel Ami, Palookaville) from his original screenplay with Belfast’s Chris Martin (Good Vibrations) also producing.
Nowhere Special features James Norton (Happy Valley, Mr. Jones, Little Women) as 35 year old window cleaner John, who has dedicated his life to bringing up his son, after the child’s mother left them soon after giving birth. When John is given only a few months to live, he attempts to find a new, perfect family for his three-year-old son, determined to shield him from the terrible reality of the situation.
Supported by Northern Ireland Screen and Eurimages, Nowhere Special is a co-production between UK, Italy, and Romania. The film is produced by Picomedia SRL, Nowhere Special Ltd., and Avanpost/Digital Cube SRL, in association with Rai Cinema. Beta Cinema has acquired worldwide sales rights.
