Stephen Fingleton’s debut feature film ‘The Survivalist’ will make its’ world premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, which will take place from April 15th to 26th in New York.

Written and directed by Fingleton, the film will compete with 11 other features at the festival and will have four public screenings including its world premiere. Martin McCann (‘Shadow Dancer’) Mia Goth (‘Nymphomaniac’), and Olwen Fouéré (‘This Must be the Place’) star in the film which is produced by Wayne Marc Godfrey, Robert Jones and David Gilbery of the Fyzz Facility.

‘The Survivalist’ was developed with the support of the BFI Film Fund and Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus Scheme and the screenplay was previously featured on the Hollywood Blacklist and topped the UK Brit List.

Stephen Fingleton - whose IFTA-nominated short film ‘SLR’ (starring Liam Cunningham) was shortlisted for the 2015 Best Live Action Short Film Oscar and who has been selected as one of Screen’s Stars of Tomorrow – said of the film’s debut at Tribeca: ‘Tribeca is the true home of contemporary independent cinema and it’s the ideal setting for people to get their first glimpse of The Survivalist. We did our post-production in New York and it’s a fantastic city.’

‘The Survivalist’ is the near future story of a man eking out a meagre existence on a secluded smallholding deep in the forest. When a starving woman and her teenage daughter discover his farm, his loneliness drives him to strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board. But as desire becomes stronger than necessity, the exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement which threatens not only his carefully constructed world but also his life.’

Richard Williams, CEO, Northern Ireland Screen said: ‘Northern Ireland Screen has a clear policy of championing Northern Ireland talent; we have been long-standing supporters of Stephen, granting him our Bill Miskelly Award in 2007 which supported his MA in Screenwriting. Having funded his recent short film ‘Magpie’ and this amazing debut feature, ‘The Survivalist’, through our New Talent Focus scheme, we are delighted that the Tribeca audience can experience what this exciting new filmmaker has to offer. To be selected for official competition at this prestigious festival is a big milestone in his professional career and is testament to the world-class talent working in the industry in Northern Ireland.’

The film is produced by The Fyzz Facility Film One Limited, with funding from the BFI, Northern Ireland Screen and The Fyzz Facility. International Sales are handled by K5 International.
