‘GOLD’ to Hit Irish Cinemas This Autumn
17 Jul 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
IFTA winning Niall Heery’s latest film GOLD which stars Screen International’s ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Maisie Williams (‘Game of Thrones’), David Wilmot (‘Calvary’), Kerry Condon (‘The Runway’) and James Nesbitt (‘The Hobbit’) will be released in Irish cinemas this autumn. Wildcard Distribution who is distributing the film in Ireland have also released the official trailer (see below).

Speaking about the release, director Niall Heery who also penned the film with his brother Brendan, said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Wildcard on the release of ‘Gold’. They showed great excitement for the project and when you’re dealing with people with that level of enthusiasm, it makes you feel more secure about your film's prospects. We spoke to a number of distributors, and they all had interesting ideas but Wildcard had the most innovative approach on how best to promote the film and get it to its audience.”

Out of their lives for 12 years, Ray (Wilmot) is on a mission to re-connect with his ex-girlfriend (Condon) and teenage daughter (Williams) who live with his former controlling and regimented P.E. teacher (Nesbitt). Unfortunately his efforts to bridge the gap with his daughter seem to lead to chaos turning any good intentions he may have into comic catastrophe.

Heery previously won the Breakthrough Talent Award at the IFTAs for his first feature Small Engine Repair. He was also one of the nominees for the Bingham New Talent Award at the recent Galway Film Fleadh, at which ‘GOLD’ received its premiere.

The feature film will also be distributed in the USA after the North American rights to it were sold to indie distributor Synergetic, a deal finalised at Cannes last May.

’GOLD’ was produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Irish production company Subotica (‘Jimi: All is By my Side’, ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’) in association with Gloucester Place Films with funding from the Irish Film Board and the BAI.
