Irish Sci-Fi Thriller 'Dark By Noon' In Production
24 Apr 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Dark By Noon
Irish sci-fi thriller ‘Dark By Noon’ is set to resume shooting next month for one week before moving into post-production. The feature film, a co-production between Vico Films and IKKA Films, shot for five weeks in Dublin over the Christmas period and is currently having visual effects added. It is co-written and co-directed by Alan Leonard and Mike O’Flaherty. O’Flaherty also produces for IKKA Films alongside Vico’s Cormac Fox.

The time-travel thriller is set in an alternate 1993, a world where history has unfolded differently, rendering the world unrecognizable. The film deals with themes of betrayal, greed and revenge and centres around Robert “Rez” Rezola, a man abandoned by society but who possesses the perfect photographic mind. Rez is coerced by a group of men from his past into becoming a guinea pig for a stolen machine called ‘Titus’.

‘Titus’ has the potential to send a person eight hours into the future for a short period. The rogue operatives are making millions by attaining advance knowledge of the stock markets. When Rez leaps forward in time he witnesses a nuclear explosion in his city leaving him only eight hours to escape the facility, save his daughter and his world.

‘The cast is headed up by Paddy Buchanan (Hollyoaks) as Rez, with Tony Murphy and O’Flaherty also holding key roles. Leonard is also the director of photography and the visual effects artist. Sound editing is being carried out by James Slevin while Brian Gleeson will edit the feature. Other crew members include camera operator Richie Lacey, production manager Lisa McNamee and continuity by Fiona Graham

‘Dark By Noon’ is being shot on a Canon 5D and is privately funded. The film has used warehouse locations in Skerries, Rush and Swords, Co Dublin. A teaser trailer for the production is also currently been edited for use at next month’s Cannes Film Festival, where the film will be available to the market.
