Located on the South Channel of the River Lee which runs through the heart of the City, it is a fine example of the old style City docks that once were the beating heart of Cork. Set on a bend in the river you can still see the original wooden quaysides slowly rotting away as each tide comes and goes. Here are now some iconic buildings of the City, including the huge Deco style College of Commerce, the ultra modern School of Music, an old deco style gas works (now RTE studios) and Fr Mathew Church & Monastery to name but a few! Very interesting visually.

Across the river runs the Trinity Footbridge, this is a busy little modern footbridge, as it connects the South Side with the City Centre Island and is nearly always thronged with groups of students. It usually has an eclectic mix of buskers and beggars all showing entrepreneurial spirit! Another interesting feature is that you can still see the original wooden quaysides from an era when this was the centre of trade and reminds people daily of past glories. Walking on this bridge at a high Spring Tide is an interesting experience as the water comes right up to the top, almost wetting your feet!
