Cloyne, a small and ancient cathedral town, is in many ways a typical East Cork small Town, with 3 roads joining in the centre with an array of traditional shops and pubs lining the streets. However, it is visually unusual in that it has an ancient Round Tower in the middle of town and a small Cathedral. It also has some great, partly converted, partly derelict, stone faced warehouses near the Tower, and together with the peacefulness of the place (it unusually doesn’t have lots of traffic running through it), Cloyne is a good place to film with lots of variety and some great period features.

The origin of Cloyne can be traced back to St. Colman in the 6th century who founded the See of Cloyne. An interesting feature at Cloyne is one of the few surviving Round Towers in Ireland. These Round Towers are thought to have been places of refuge for Christian monks at times of attack and plunder.

Distance from Cork: 30 minutes
