Built in the 19th Century this huge and imposing fortress sits bizarrely in the middle of well-to-do Sunday’s Well; an area of old money wealth. Built by the British as a prison, it struck fear into the hearts of most Corkonians for the terrible conditions and things that happened inside. Happily, today it is a major visitor attraction, but its sheer size is still daunting and eerie.

The architecture lends itself very well to being used as a Castle or Fortress both inside and out, with flagstone floors, barrelled corridors and castellated towers. Also in this large walled complex are ruined hospital buildings and courtyards at the back which are so big they could be used for period scenes, such as Medieval markets/jousting or a range of Historical scenes.

A great, quiet, period location in the heart of the City with ample parking on site – a very versatile filming location.
