The Old Head of Kinsale, (in Irish, An Seancheann) is a headland near Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. An early lighthouse was established here in the 17th century by Robert Reading. It is notable for being the nearest land point to the site of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in 1915.

This is one of the most stunning locations in Ireland. Wild and windswept it has a aura unsurpassed almost anywhere else. Wild birds soar around and dolphins & whales pass close by at certain times of year. It’s also one of the higher lighthouses in the County and view from the top is breathtaking.

The land around & approaching it, however, is privately owned and is operated as an exclusive Golf Course, so permission must be sought from the owners before visiting.

Distance from Cork: 40 minutes
