Baltimore in West Cork sits near the very southern tip of Ireland on the beautiful southwest coast. Across a large natural harbour lies Carbery's Hundred Isles, which include the enchanting islands of Cape Clear, Sherkin and Heir, all reached by ferry from the pier. It has a very popular area in the centre with nice traditional bars and restaurants where people while away the day sitting outside in Summer.
It has quite a sizeable port and harbour for its size and a considerable number of boats & yachts moored in the sheltered bay. A renovated Castle sits right above the main square and completes a great location.
The Beacon is set spectacularly on top of high cliffs at the mouth of Roaring Water Bay with Sherkin Island opposite. This is a truly stunning and dramatic location. Windswept, open and slightly dangerous, the sheer vertical rock sheets that plummet to the ocean below can literally take your breath away, yet on a good day it can be soft and tranquil. A pretty traditional road with stone walls runs up to it over heather moorland. Ferries go from here to both Sherkin and Cape Clear islands.
