This is a vast, empty and dilapidated heavy engineering site, currently in receivership, which sits empty and decaying awaiting redevelopment, but because of this is a great filming location.

The rusting hulks of buildings, stores and machinery are very dramatic and provide a setting that would be almost impossible to recreate using sets. The fact that its disused means crews have ample space, peace & quiet and reduced Health & safety concerns compared to a working site of this nature. This would be ideal for post-apocalyptic/sci-fi films, post industrial bleak social dramas or even pop videos. A fascinating visual aspect is the way that wildlife and flora have started to take over the site and the juxtaposition of flowers next to rusting steel hulks is a poignant visual metaphor for how things have changed.

The Port of Cork Company is among a number of bidders interested in acquiring the former IFI site at Marino Point. The 114 acre site, which is currently on the market, was the location of the former Irish Fertiliser Industry (IFI) facility.
