This Oscar winning film directed by John Ford from a story by Liam O'Flaherty, tells the tale of the hard drinking Gypo Nolan who is left destitute after been forced out of the rebel gangs in 1922 Dublin. He learns that his beloved Katie has turned to prostitution and in desperation Gypo informs on a fellow rebel for a twenty pound reward.

Atmospherically set around one foggy night, full of shadows, this story of confusion and revenge hurtles towards its end.
