Luggala Lodge

Located between the Sally Gap and Roundwood in County Wicklow, this rustic stretch of the Garden of Ireland is known as the first port of call for advertising executives and TV location scouts when a scenic backdrop of rolling green hills and verdant valleys is required.

It has been the location for many films including John Boorman’s 1981 film Excalibur, a fantastical realisation of the legend of King Arthur and Zardoz, again directed by Boorman, starring Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling and Animal Farm by George Orwell.

The 2004 adaption of King Arthur, directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightly and the classic film Sinful Davey, directed by John Huston and featuring Ronald Fraser, Robert Morley, John Hurt and Angelica Huston were both filmed at Luggala. Pierce Brosnan produced and starred in The Nephew filmed there and it was also used as a setting for the popular TV programme, Ballykissangel.

The demesne, which is today used for films and advertisements, is also famous for sika deer and grouse and, therefore, for its stalking and shooting. Fishing is available on Clohogue River and Lough Dan, where brown trout and Arctic char may be found in abundance and wild orchids bloom in a demesne where, it has been said, a visitor could find at least one of every species of land mammal and many of the inland birds native to Ireland.

This exquisite Gothic Revival house is set against a backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty in its own private valley and is available for renting all year round.
