National Museums Northern Ireland
Explore. Engage. Enjoy.

We’re here to explore.

Across four unique sites, we care for and present inspirational collections that reflect the creativity, innovation, history, culture and people of Northern Ireland and beyond.

Inspirational Locations

From our hearth fires and working farmyards to our galleries of mighty steam locomotives and vintage cars, filmmakers and professional photographers are spoilt for choice by the fascinating and accessible locations on offer at National Museums Northern Ireland.

The impressive surrounds of the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, Cultra and the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh, provide fabulous backdrops for local and visiting productions teams seeking unique and authentic locations.  Previous projects have ranged from photoshoots, television commercial production and education based projects to light entertainment programmes, historical period dramas and documentaries.

Ulster American Folk Park

The human drama behind three centuries of Irish emigration is brought to life spectacularly at the Ulster American Folk Park.  Experience first hand the journey from the farmsteads of rural Ulster to the log cabins of pioneer America.  Over30 original and authentic exhibit buildings have been restored, relocated and populated by a cast of colourful, costumed characters.  A life-sized 19th century emigrant sailing ship transports visitors the “New World”.

  • Excellent base for filming in the North West; 45 minutes from Derry and 75 minutes from Belfast.
  • The Ulster Street has been reconstructed using the finest collection of original 19th century shop fronts from all over Northern Ireland, including Reilly’s Pub, Blair’s Print Shop, the Post Office, Hill’s Chemist and Reynolds Rope-makers.  The American Street has a General Store circa 1880 from Woodstock, North Virginia and is packed full of typical goods required for the American Frontier.
  • Costumed visitor guides available if required.
  • National Museums staff to assist if required.
