Nick Hamm to Launch ‘Climate Wars’ TV Docu-Series
11 Sep 2018 :
The Belfast native announced his intention to launch a TV series focusing on global struggles with climate change.

Following the premiere of his latest film ‘Driven’ at the Venice Film Festival, Nick Hamm announced that his next project will be a television docu-series inspired by his experiences of shooting the film in the recently hurricane-ravaged country of Puerto Rico.

A short documentary about the difficult shoot in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, screened after the premiere in Venice last week. ‘The Making of Driven’, was directed by Ambika Leigh, who will also help launch ‘Climate Wars’ alongside Hamm.

‘Driven’ starring Jason Sudekis, Lee Pace, Judy Greer and Corey Stoll, follows the automotive company owner John DeLorean in his involvement in a drug transaction. Originally, the crew wrapped Stoll’s scenes over a five day period, as the actor was already booked to star in ‘First Man.’ When the hurricane warning was issued the cast and crew were evacuated.

Speaking after the premiere at Venice, Hamm said:

“When we returned we had no idea of the actual damage, of how much had gone on. We were quite scared about going back. There were no heroics about going back.”

When speaking about why filming returned to Puerto Rico, Hamm added: “There were a lot of people that needed a paycheck, the support and the infrastructure that a movie can give.”

Due to the harrowing experience of the filming process, Hamm has announced that the focus of the first episode of the series will be on the troubling shoot in Puerto Rico:

“We’re quite interested in the idea that it forms part of a series where you’re showing people at work who are dealing with the effects of climate change, but more importantly as a story for Hollywood.”

The docu-series is currently in early stages of development, whilst ’Driven’ premieres at Toronto International Film Festival this week.
